Property Description
This truly delightful fisherman’s cottage, built around 1770, overlooks the busy little harbour of Brixham with uninterrupted views of Torbay and out to sea. Most rooms have views of the harbour and bay, and the holiday cottage has been lovingly and sympathetically restored. Many of the original and period features have been retained, and the double bedroom has a Victorian-style bedstead. It boasts a small enclosed decked area leading to a flight of 34 steep stone steps to a roof-top level garden, with spectacular sea and town views.
Situated off the main harbour in one of the oldest, pretty side streets, Fisherman’s Cottage is a Victorian terraced house which has been completely renovated to provide a spacious holiday cottage, and is decorated and furnished to a very good standard. With a large picture window to give fantastic views out to sea, making this an ideal location for a family holiday, or for friends to get together. There are many fantastic restaurants, tea shops and gift shops to browse. Brixham has many activities all year round including a Pirate Festival each year, the trawler race and so much more. The harbour shops and restaurants are a 3-minute stroll away, or take a boat trip to Torquay and Dartmouth for a day’s fishing.
The coastal path is easily accessed leading to lovely beaches and coves; the popular Fishcombe Cove is at the top of the road. Brixham forms the third part of Torbay – the others being Torquay and Paignton. The bay is known as the English Riviera due to its unique micro-climate. Walkers and navigators can escape and explore the depths of Dartmoor, spot wild ponies, cross ancient stone bridges spanning the clear waters of the River Dart, and other rivers. You can also feel the somewhat eerie presence of the tors, seven rocky hills presiding majestically over the moors. Take the ferry across to Dartmouth, the neighbouring town to Brixham, set on and across the River Dart. At the mouth of the river are Kingswear and Dartmouth Castles with the rocky waters of the estuary lapping at their feet. There are many National Trust properties and Agatha Christie’s summer house is well worth a visit. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
