Property Description

Dovercourt is a very old town listed within the Domesday Book of 1086, though the nearby historic port of Harwich is better known. Dovercourt Hall is a timber framed building with a wealth of exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. The property was built around 1600, and is a Grade II listed building with further additions later in the 17th century. Originally built as a farmhouse, the surrounding land was farmed until the 1950s, and is now set in an acre of grounds with a natural pond. During the long history of the property, further renovations were carried out during 2015 which lead to the completion of Dovercourt Hall Cottage.
This delightful property, one of a pair, is adjacent to the owner’s home and comprises four bedrooms, a spacious living room with open fire and an open plan kitchen/dining area. Decorated and furnished to a very good standard, guests can enjoy up-to-date amenities but still admire the character and charm of this historic cottage. The large garden is the ideal place to sit out and enjoy a lovely summer’s evening with friends and family, hosting a barbecue and enjoying relaxing in the seating area.

Enjoy either an award-winning beach by the leading lighthouses or walk in the opposite direction onto the natural foreshore, both are just over the road across the playing field from the cottage. Also within a 5-minute walk from the cottage is a large range of activities, swimming pool, gym, squash and badminton courts, plus seasonal activities include roller skating, a putting green, a boating lake and skateboard park. Walk to historic Harwich, visit the Mayflower Project where a full-size replica of the famous ship that took the pilgrim fathers to America is being built or the Redoubt Napoleonic Fort and other museums. See a movie in the Electric Palace, one of the oldest cinemas in the country, built in 1911. From the Ha’penny pier visitors can take the foot ferry to Felixstowe. Clacton or Walton with their piers and traditional seaside amusements are within 15 miles journey. Also well worth a visit is Colchester, 20 miles away, the oldest recorded town in Britain with plenty of history, a large castle and shopping, as well as a zoo. Constable Country, Ipswich and pretty Suffolk villages all are within 35 minutes’ drive. The nearest golf club is less than 1½ miles away, or Frinton-on-Sea, which has two golf courses, is 14 miles way. Beach 200 yards. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
