The Old Reading Room is a large, five bedroom house situated in the pretty village of Lydford, with its three welcoming pubs, and proximity to Dartmoor National Park and Lydford Gorge. This beautiful property can accommodate up to ten guests. The living room is comfortably furnished with a wood burner, a 65″ Smart TV, four sofas, an armchair, coffee table and a piano. The kitchen next door is well-equipped and includes an electric Aga with three ovens, whilst the large dining table which can seat up to twelve guests and is the perfect space for a celebratory meal.
Upstairs are five cosy bedrooms. The first has a super kingsize bed, the next has a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a single bunk on top. The third bedroom has a standard double bed with a quirky bookcase which leads through to another double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and its own two person sauna. The fifth bedroom has a single bed.
The Old Reading Room is situated within the village of Lydford, which is located on the western edge of Dartmoor, making it a fantastic choice for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, particularly walking and hiking. The village of Lydford is a jewel in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To the north, just half a mile away, the high tors come right down to the village edge, while to the south, the River Lyd winds its way through Lydford Forest on its tumbling course northwards. The village has a Post Office, an award-winning restaurant and a pub called, which is just 50 yards from the accommodation.
A short distance from the property is the spectacular Lydford Gorge, with its 30-metre waterfall and range of scenic walking routes. Further afield, away from Dartmoor, both the Devon and Cornwall coasts are within a 30-mile drive, including the historic town of Tintagel, famed for its connections to King Arthur, and the picturesque cove at Crackington Haven.
Nearby Dartmoor offers ample opportunities for walking and cycling, and The Granite Way cycle trail is just 440 yards away. The Devon Cycle Network (Route 27) is very close by, as is Drake’s Trail and the Tamar Trails. Watersports are available on Roadford Lake, and the rivers can be fished via the ’Westcountry Angling Passport’. The moorland market towns of Tavistock and Okehampton are both a short drive away. Whether walking the moors, fishing, watching the amazing wildlife or just visiting the many attractions of this stunningly beautiful area, you’ll never be lost for something to do.
