The location of Casa Emmez is wonderful, so close to two sandy beaches and the popular scuba diving and sailing region of Bonaire and also very close to the fabulous old town of Alcudia.

Alcudia Old Town has such a warm ambience. Its narrow cobbled streets are sprinkled with charming boutiques, fabulous restaurants and colourful Romeo and Juliet balconies. In the 16th century, pirates were coming from Africa and ransacking the coastal villages. People moved inland to protect themselves, hence the Old Town of Alcudia. The warren of narrow streets inside the Medieval walls has been perfectly restored and ooze their warm appeal to tourists. The town puts on a whole host of cultural events, traditional fiestas and classical music festivals.

The first-class gastronomic restaurants serve some fantastic meals. If you are wandering around the old town, you should be sure to visit the 19th-century Neogothic parish church of Sant Jaume. Thriving markets take place on Tuesdays and Sundays. All sorts of local produce are sold as well as souvenirs, linens, leather goods and jewellery.

Contemporary art fans should visit the wonderful Sa Bassa Blanca Museum. The gardens are stunning, and there are contemporary sculptures to see there too.

Mallorca is a real hot-spot for cyclists. The rugged, mountainous terrain and winding roads are perfect for a challenging ride. The Mallorca 312 cycle race takes place each year over 312km of the island with an altitude gain of 5050m. The start and finish of the race are in Playa de Muro, near Alcudia and you have 14 hours to complete the course!

Pollensa Old Town and Port de Pollensa are not far away and are definitely worth a visit. The enchanting Old Town is packed with ancient blonde stone architecture, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. An hour’s hike takes you to the top of the Puig de Maria, a 14th-century monastery atop a large hill overlooking the town. The panoramic views are delightful. The port, a few kilometres north, has glorious beaches and fantastic restaurants and chic bars.

Children will love staying at Casa Emmez. The villa is very spacious, and the pool is lovely. There is a table tennis table for their enjoyment. It is only a very short distance to wonderful beaches. Playa de Sant Pere and Playa de Sant Joan are very close. They offer some real waves while some Mallorcan beaches are very calm.

Some of the favourite Mallorcan beaches are Playa de Muro which backs onto the Parc Natural de S’Albufera, Cala Mondrago, Cala Agulla, Playa de Formentor and Cala Mesquida. Getting to Playa de Formentor is all part of the fun as you either have the hair-raising coastal road or you go by boat.

There is plenty to please children of all ages in Mallorca. Whilst younger children will adore the beaches, aquarium and animals; teenagers can challenge themselves with mountain biking, scuba diving, spelunking in sea caves or even cliff jumping.

The lovely Palma aquarium has more than 8000 animals of 700 different species. Visitors will take an adventure through the Mediterranean, Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans to the sound of classical music. There is a one-of-a-kind park near Ses Salines where you can stroke, feed and admire the Artestruz ostriches.

Safari-Zoo, near Cala Millor, has more than 600 animals including rhinos, hippos, zebras, giraffes, baboons, wildebeest and antelopes. You can watch from the comfort of your car or the open-sided tourist train. The animals have plenty of space to roam, unlike a traditional zoo.

La Reserva Galatzo is a fascinating nature reserve near Puigpunyent. The 3.5km long loop road winds past grottoes, waterfalls and wildlife including goats, ostriches, emus, deers, wild donkeys and peacocks. Twice a day, there is a bird of prey displays. The challenging adventure circuit has rock climbing, swinging bridges, a zip wire and canyons to slide down.
